▼ Early Life

Isaac was born on July 10, 1986, to Marisol and Jon-Jon Mendoza in Scottsdale, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix. His parents were originally from the Philippines, and immigrated to the United States in 1980. From a young age, Isaac was taught the importance of hard work, and regularly helped out in his parents' small convenience store where he stocked shelves and swept floors.

Although Isaac was well-liked among his peers, he struggled in school throughout most of his youth, and was nearly forced to repeat the 6th grade. In his report cards, he was often described as "creative" but lacking attention, and would often quit or avoid tasks that required strenuous effort. Despite this, Isaac proved to possess a natural talent for music, and would often write small jingles on his Casio SK-1 keyboard.

After graduating from high school, Isaac briefly enrolled at Red Mesa Community College, completing several general education credits while also working part-time at Burger-Matic. He barely passed his introductory classes, instead spending most of his time at parties, drinking, and doing whip-its. He dropped out after two semesters to pursue his dream of becoming an amateur DJ, much to his parents' disdain. He sent several recordings around to other artists and only heard back from one of them, who told Isaac that he simply wasn't talented enough to make it as a DJ, and encouraged him to find another hobby.

After dropping out of college, and with his dreams of becoming a DJ crushed, Isaac reluctantly took a part-time job in the warehouse of his local Cloud 9 store. To his surprise, he excelled...socially at least. Although he wasn't particularly skilled, efficient, or even useful, his coworkers universally adored him, and his confidence impressed his superiors.

As time went on, Isaac appeared on the company's radar as a potential management candidate. In 2012 he was promoted to Warehouse Supervisor, and eventually Assistant Manager. Each time, he accepted the promotion with an easygoing shrug, barely processing how or why it happened. As far as corporate was concerned, he didn’t make waves, he didn’t break the law, and he fostered a culture of camaraderie like no other. In other words, he showed up, smiled, and, most importantly, was well-liked.

It might seem strange that a person with no real skills or achievements was pushed so quickly up the ladder, but Isaac, dull as he is, possesses a surprisingly effective skill: audacity. Through sheer charm and persistence, Isaac often assumed authority without officially earning it. When the manager of Store #1144 was fired, Isaac simply walked into the store, sat down at the manager’s desk, and began acting as if he had already been hired for the job.

Isaac was initially met with skepticism, but he ignored all objections and continued behaving as if he belonged until everyone, including the District Manager, just accepted it. His blatant opportunism and confidence surprised everyone, and since no one cared enough to formally challenge him, Isaac was officially made Store Manager.

▼ Personality

On a more personal level, Isaac is endearingly dumb, impulsive, and full of endless optimism. While he lacks a great deal of critical thinking, he is unwaveringly loyal to his friends and coworkers. He is also an extremely eager person in general; whether it's about sneakers, fast cars, or EDM, Isaac throws himself

into everything with MAX enthusiasm. This impulsivity often means that his decisions are based purely on gut instinct, which can lead to disaster or unexpected success, depending on the day.

Given his stunted IQ, Isaac does struggle with basic logic (when he first met Sam, Isaac even

recalled that a doctor once described his brain as "smooth as an egg") but he has nevertheless had moments of remarkable insight. He is a genuinely kind person, and despite his outwardly tough appearance, is actually quite vulnerable and insecure. He is a prolific shopaholic, which has saddled him with massive amounts of credit card debt, most of which is derived from his expensive, yet short-lived hobbies.

As a boss, Isaac takes a laissez-faire approach to management, delegating everything he possibly can to other people. He believes that the key to decision-making is simply to make no decisions at all, which (surprisingly) actually works. When he does need to make a decision for whatever reason, he tends to make impulsive, arbitrary choices that make little sense, but even when they backfire, he is skilled at shifting blame and burying problems using his characteristic charm. While his employees tend to see him as erratic and ineffective, they are nonetheless loyal due to his unmatched kindness, candor, and honesty.

▼ Family & Relationships

Shortly after Isaac started at Store #1144 in early 2016, he began a semi-romantic relationship with the store's Softlines Manager, Sam Nitaya. When the two first met, their relationship mostly consisted of antagonistic back-and-forth banter. Over time, this animosity became progressively more playful, and within a few months, their interactions evolved into a no-strings-attached affair.

As a couple, their dynamic somewhat reflects the polarity of their personalities. Sam's overbearing and bossy temperament is matched by Isaac's oblivious indifference and constant positivity. Although they are both adamant that their relationship remain casual, it's evident they both mean a lot more to each other than they like to admit.

Technically, as a Store Manager, Isaac is not allowed to be romantically involved with any store-level employees. Both Isaac and Sam, however, enjoy the secrecy, even if most of the employees already know or at least suspect that they have been seeing each other.

Isaac has an office at the back of the store which he has decorated with bean bag chairs, music memorabilia, and keepsakes.

Isaac drives a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, which he takes great pride in owning.

Although it is against company policy, Isaac and Sam have been secretly seeing each other for months, not that the secret is very well kept.
