Badass Bureaucrat: Not immediately obvious, but Louis' ability to regularly go up against impossible professional odds and succeed almost every time is awe-inspiring. When it comes to retail management, Louis is virtually unmatched, and it is precisely his hyper-competence that has kept him employed for so long...or he's just really lucky.​

Being Personal Isn't Professional: Louis purposefully keeps the two sides separate. He's a generous and polite man by nature, but as a boss, he has to be professional and commanding at all times in the workplace to ensure the company's survival.

Consummate Professional: He's a company-man through and through, unbending and unbreakable. He's also considered one of the best store managers in the Company.​

​

Cool Key: Louis carries the master key to the store, 1M7, which opens all external and internal doors, offices, glass cases, secure lockups and utility rooms.

​

Dress Code: At work, he is usually seen wearing a pair of pleated khakis, a powder blue dress shirt and a company-branded necktie featuring a blue sky and puffy white clouds. According to Louis, managers haven't been required to wear the outfit since 2004, he's just used to it.

​

Education Mama: A paternal example. If his daughters are getting straight A's it can only mean one thing to Louis Hachiya: school is too easy and must be made more challenging.

​

Gaydar: His complete lack of one is a running gag. Even when Axel brought his boyfriend to the store's Halloween party (Dressed as Cher for that matter), he didn't get it.​

​

Good Parents: Louis, despite his strictness and personality, fiercely loves his family. Considering he's also the Parental Substitute for Mindy, he also counts as this towards her.

​

Good is not Nice: Louis is not an overwhelmingly friendly person and will gladly chide anyone who has differing opinions than him. Differing opinions, the woman he loves, a favored protégé, complete strangers... Louis is not a nice person, but he genuinely cares about the people around him, and has even risked his career several times to protect his employees against the wrath of Corporate.

Hidden Depths:

​

• Louis is actually a fairly accomplished cellist, and performed competitively until he graduated from college. He still plays occasionally.

• He is fluent in Esperanto.

• Louis is shown to absolutely LOVE solving crossword puzzles, and becomes uncharacteristically playful at the prospect of completing them.

• Given his degree in mathematics, he's shown to be a good mental calculator, as he can accurately add and subtract large numbers his head with no calculator.

Reasonable Authority Figure: An imposing and stern autocrat, but when push comes to shove, he sticks up for his employees. He's very astute as to where his coworkers succeed and how to work around their weaknesses when things need to get done.

​

Secretly Wealthy: Downplayed somewhat. While he's known to make decent money as a store manager, he never really calls attention to it.

​

​Silver Fox: Minor example, his hair has begun to grey at the temples, which fits his overall look.

​

Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: While Store #1144 has a bitter rivalry with the Amberino Heights store, Louis seems to despise them the most, and has a particular dislike for the manager, Chien.

​​

To Be Lawful or Good: Time after time, Louis will encounter situations where the problem at hand could be easily solved if he just broke the laws that he so values.

 

Workaholic: Louis lives, sleeps and breaths his work, almost to an alarming degree.
